On the initiative of PILATUS-BAHNEN, a total of 19 animals were released in the area between 1961 and 1969. The Mount Pilatus ibex colony inhabits the Steiglihorn – Esel – Tomlishorn – Widderfeld – Stäfeliflue – Risetenstock chain as well as the Matthorn in front of it. The colony on Mount Pilatus has grown considerably over the years. There are now 107 animals living here and the ibex population in the whole of Switzerland numbers 15,700. In cooperation with the responsible hunting authority, PILATUS-BAHNEN will continue to work for the preservation, protection and health of the ibex colony on Mount Pilatus. The ibex is now a protected species throughout Switzerland.

Ruedi Käch has created a unique illustrated book «The colony of alpine ibexes on Mount Pilatus».

The book is available in the Shops of the PILATUS-BAHNEN, at the bookselling trade or directly at the publisher. Price: CHF 38.00, ISBN 978-3-905914-02-3.
